According to the U.S. Department of State, 4,798 U.S.Certificates of Loss of Nationality (“CLN”) were approved in fiscal year 2022 (October 1st, 2021 to September 30th, 2022).
This information was obtained by Malakouti Law via a freedom of information act (“FOIA”) request with the U.S. Department of State ("DOS") filed on October 12th, 2024.
The request as filed solicited:
“Any and all documents and communications containing a tally of the total number of Certificates of Loss of Nationality (CLN) issued in the year 2022. (Date Range for Record Search: From 10/01/2021 To 12/31/2022).”
The response from DOS was returned to Malakouti Law on April 10th, 2025. It can be found below.
