This article is part of our series exploring what exactly the Palau digital residency ID can be used for.
I made my 35th attempt to use the Palau digital residency ID in March, 2026.
I tried to use the ID to obtain a California in-person notarization at a UPS store in Los Angeles for a second time (Link to first attempt).
Result: Successful.
Explanation: I went to a UPS store in Koreatown, Los Angeles, California to notarize my signature for a vitalchek.com request for a California marriage certificate of a client (just as in our first notarization field report). I presented the Palau digital residency ID. The notary asked for another form of ID but kept the Palau ID. I presented an alternate expired legal ID (purposely, of course). I did this to force the notary to make a decision on whether he would accept the Palau digital residency ID.
The notary then considered the two ID types and used the Palau digital residency ID to fill out the notarization entry in his notary book. He then completed the notarization and transaction, making this attempted use case another success, baby.
I’ll continue trying to use the Palau ID, and report the results here on Malakouti Law.
