This article is part of our series exploring what exactly the Palau digital residency ID can be used for.
I made my 33rd attempt to use the Palau digital residency ID in November, 2025.
I tried to use the Palau ID to purchase delicious holiday themed alcohol from a Smith’s Food and Drug store in the Las Vegas area a second time (first attempt report here) with a different checkout cashier.
Result: Successful.
Explanation: After Thanksgiving, I went to a local Smith’s Food and Drug store in the Las Vegas area to pick up some more sweet, sweet alcoholic Pennsylvania Dutch egg nog (I highly recommend it).
This was the same Smith’s store I went to a few weeks prior in this report.
This time I went to the self-checkout kiosk, scanned the egg nog’s bar code and listened to the kiosk indicate that the checkout was flagged and held for age verification. A few seconds later, a Smith’s employee approached my kiosk.
I presented the Palau digital residency ID once again. The Smith’s employee looked at the ID, released the hold on checkout and said “thank you.”
I then completed the checkout, left the store and enjoyed some of that egg nog later that very day. Therefore this attempted use of the Palau digital residency ID to purchase alcohol from a store was successful.
I’ll continue trying to use the Palau ID, and report the results here on Malakouti Law.
