This article is part of our series exploring what exactly the Palau digital residency ID can be used for.
I made my 29th attempt to use the Palau digital residency ID (“the ID”) in June, 2025.
I tried to use the Palau ID to request criminal case records from the Ventura County Courthouse in California for one of my clients.
Result: Successful.
Explanation: As directed on the Ventura county Courthouse website, I emailed
RecordsCorrespondence@ventura.courts.ca.gov to request criminal case records for a client of mine.
In response, I received the email below requesting that I provide a “valid picture ID.”

I responded to this email by emailing a copy of the front and back of my Palau digital residency ID. Fortunately, the Palau ID was accepted by Ventura County courthouse as sufficient and my records request was processed.
This attempted use case of the Palau digital residency ID for confirming my identity for a criminal case record request from Ventura County Courthouse was therefore successful.
I’ll continue trying to use the ID, and report the results here on Malakouti Law.
